Fortune Cookie......
.......................................................................................

Yesterday we went to a chinese restaurant for lunch. At the end of the lunch me and my friend set about cracking open the fortune cookie getting ourself ready to go through the motions of reading the fortune and going, "Yeah right!". But the fortune that i recieved in my fortune cookie became a point of debate. Here is what it said in clear black letters printed on the trademark little thin white strip of paper:

"Good things come to those who wait
but only the things left by those who hustle"

Me and my friend both had different interpretations. I could not believe my friend thought it meant that people who are patient get rewarded and those who hustle don't. Whereas it was crystal clear to me. It meant that there are enough good things for everyone, but those who hustle get a choice of which things they want, and the patient ones get good things too but only those rejected by the ones who hustle. So the cookie basically advocates hustling, which might be different to the traditional views on patience. What do you think? What is your interpretation? Maybe they revised the fortunes to be more contemporary?

abraham lincoln - meaning hustling as an antonym for procrastination and not the slang definition more popular now.

its just as how they modify their recipies to better suit the american palate, so do they the cookies :)

aha! that might be the explanation!
But even then it says dont be patient or else you dont get a choice in the good things you get? I dont accept that patience is for laziness.

ya but one would rather ask someone out if one is interested than wait around - you know what I mean?

yes, now that opens up another can of interpretations. The fortune cookie says, that for both the patient ones and the hustlers, good things "come" to them.....you don't have to go ask them out....they come to you, and maybe ask you out, and then you dont have to buy the dinner.

tortoises are painfully slow, not necessarily patient. They might be hustling away towards their target in terms of their own speeds, taking risky turns and stuff.

Anyways, racing rabbits is now totally frowned upon in the tortoise community now a days. It is deemed proper for a tortoise to engage in productive activities and not while away their time racing. In fact the pride and prejudice - tortoise version states that a young tortoise lady should never be seen prancing around and frolicking with the rabbit folk and stuff like that.....

the actual Lincoln quote does not have the word "good" in front. Meaning that 'Things' will come to those who wait, not neccessarily "good" things. The ones who hustle will get the "good" things.
